Q 1. Where would you normally use timber newel post caps ?
On top of a 115 x 115mm post on a staircase to dress it up.

Q 2. What is it made out of ?
Plantation grown Radiata Pine.

Q 3. What are the important dimensions ?
Overall : 65mm Height x 170mm Width x 170mm Depth
On the bottom there is a 115 x 115mm rebate that allows the cap to fit over the post.

Q 4. How should you finish it ?
If looking for a natural finish, then a clear lacquer will be fine; or you can use a stain to achieve your desired colour then use a clear lacquer to finish it off.
If wanting to paint, a water based primer/undercoat is not a necessity (although it wouldn’t hurt), but at least 2 coats of the final colour is a must.
